Deirdre's Tips | How to Ensure Perfect Family Portraits {Grafton, MA Family Photography}

So many clients ask how I always manage to ensure children of all ages are happy and smiling in the portraits I take.  Well, today I am going to share the secret to a perfect family portrait session in three easy steps...

1. Talk to your children beforehand about expectations and that you want nice sweet smiles, this is not the time for goofing off.

2. Ensure you plan outfits wisely because it would be a shame if say, a shoe fell off mid-shoot!  That may ruin the whole picture!

3. Let your kids know it is a serious session where they are expected to behave the entire hour.

To better illustrate these tips, I'm going to use my recent personal family portrait session I took of my own family.  As you can see, we followed the rules to a T!

Hopefully by now you know that all of my tips above are never to be followed!  I think these portraits above show off the silly personalities of my sweet little ones and while I do also have a great amount of the classic smile portraits, sometimes these are the ones I love the most!

So, the real rules for ensuring the perfect family portrait:

1. Plan your outfits ahead so there is no stress on the day of your session.

2. As soon as you arrive, know that I am in charge of making your kids happy and smile.  We play, goof off and go on adventures - this is how I capture true smiles and emotions.

3. Relax and enjoy the moments, family portraits are a special bonding time where you create moments that last forever.

I am so looking forward to my upcoming sessions!  Hope this gave you a smile!

xo,

Deirdre
